Castletown 5 September: The Runaway Universe
14 September 2010

Dr Martin Hendry of Glasgow University travelled to Castletown Heritage Centre in Caithness with a talk on modern cosmology. The event was hosted by Caithness Astronomy Group, whose chairman, Gordon Mackie, reports that there was a good attendance and much interest in the subject.

'Dr Hendry talked those present through the evidence for dark matter and dark energy and the observations that show the universe is expanding,' he says.

'Afterwards a short observing session took advantage of some clear skies. This permitted viewing of some of the more prominent constellations in the summer sk, the Milky Way, our neighbour the Andromeda Galaxy and the giant planet Jupiter with its four largest moons.'
