Tongue 10 November: The Broch-Builders of Strathnaver..
12 November 2010
Howie Firth spoke on ‘The Broch-Builders of Strathnaver’ showing how various patterns of the Iron Age broch towers can be analysed by statistics, relating to wall thicknesses, base diameters, and particularly location, and the resulting picture that then emerges of the broch-builders and their times. The event, which was chosen after consultation with Strathnaver Museum, took place in the lounge of the Ben Loyal Hotel, with a warm fire, comfortable armchairs, and tea and coffee, and was attended by 12 people, who provided much stimulating discussion, with a wealth of information about aspects such as the traditions of Strathnaver and local geology and geography.
